The horns provide the warm sound in the middle of the band. Four places make up the horn section, a Flugel Horn (B-flat) and three Tenor Horns (E-flat).
Connie Chadwick - Flugel Horn
Connie started playing the trumpet as a kid but only discovered the niche world of brass bands while at University in York. She moved to London (where the streets are paved with gold) and joined a band in the hope of meeting other northern ex-pats, and then to Brighton. She moved from cornet to flugel in 2021 and won the Most Improved Player in 2023.
Jenny Ireland - Solo Horn
Jenny Alderton - 1st Horn
Stewart Tunstall - 2nd Horn
Stewart comes from a family of brass players and began learning the tenor horn around the age of 11, expertly taught by his grandad, the bandmaster of the Sailors Chapel Band in Liverpool. He played with the band until he was 18 before moving to Birmingham for university.
While in the Midlands, Stewart joined Halesowen Brass Band on 2nd Horn before moving up to 1st Horn.
In 2023, he relocated to Hove and joined the band in 2024 on 2nd Horn. When he’s not playing, Stewart works as a Spanish and French teacher at a local secondary school.
